Trade war turns green – China faces pillory

The European Union is planning a climate tariff. If the US joins in, China will come under pressure. In contrast, Switzerland has a pioneering role thanks to the CO2 tax.

Donald Trump put the trade war on the world’s political agenda. While the militant president has been voted out, the conflict between the US and China remains. In addition, another front is forming, this time from the Europeans: The EU plans to punish environmental offenders with tariffs in the future. This is also a declaration of war on China.

In an article in the NZZ am Sonntag, Ralph Ossa stresses the need for China to cooperate in the global fight against climate change. He advocates putting pressure on China and getting the country with the highest CO2 emissions on board as part of a climate club.
